About
Mohsen Salah Youssef joined the Urban Planning department in King Saud University as assistant professor in 2003, since then he has been teaching courses and studios related to planning and urban design fields , among them are planning theory , principles of urban design, man and the built environment,,…etc. In addition to graduation project and many other studios related to his specialization. Before joining King Saud University he has been teaching urban design since 1981 in the faculty of Engineering at Al-Azhar University in Cairo. He has also been practicing professional work with reputable consulting firms and organizations in Egypt, Dubai and K.S.A as well.
His professional philosophy was inspired by the wisdom of Patrick Geddes: Every Place has a true personality, a personality too much asleep it may be, but which it is the task of the planner - as master artist – to awaken. And only he can do this, the one who is in love and feel at home with his subject, the love in which high intuition supplements knowledge, and arouses his fullest intensity of expression.
His life vision was inspired by the essential principle in Islam, which is the holly and absolute oneness of Allah, and the absolute duality of creatures. This vision was explained in Hegel's Idealism in which conflicts and contradictions are regarded as necessary elements of truth, and truth is regarded as a process rather than a fixed state of things. And that the governing rule of it is rhythm.
He treats teaching as an opportunity to inspire and empower. As a planning and urban design teacher, it is his goal to enhance student learning as a transformative experience. Ideally, he wants students to feel personally changed by their participation in his courses. It is his expectation that students not only learn from him and from each other, but that he learns from them as well. Students always expect that he is approachable, available to answer questions, and genuinely invested in their academic success.
