About
Dr Ziad A Alameddine obtained his BArch degree in Architecture from King Saud University in 1984. He pursued his graduate studies in the United Kingdom, where he obtained his MPhil degree in Urban Design and Regional Planning from Edinburgh University in 1988. During his studies at the University of Edinburgh, Dr Alameddine was inspired by the knowledge of Prof. Percy Johnson-Marshall, a prominent pioneer in urban design and city planning in the UK and the author of Rebuilding the City.
Shortly after obtaining his master degree, Dr Alameddine consolidated his education by turning to professional field; and in 1989 he joined Reiach and Hall Architects, one of the leading architectural firms in Edinburgh - Scotland, where he developed his international experience through working with renowned architects on numerous significant architectural and planning projects in the UK. At R&H, Dr Alameddine showed great interest and knowledge in computer technologies through attending several advanced training courses. Later on, he was appointed as a CAD Manager with the full responsibility of managing the Computer Department.
In 1995, Dr Alameddine joined the teaching staff of College of Architecture and Planning – King Saud University, where he lectured on subjects related to neighbourhood planning and the use of computer technologies and techniques.
With the aspiration to develop further his education, Dr Alameddine enrolled in a post-graduate programme; and in 2005 he obtained his PhD degree form the School of Architecture - Edinburgh College of Art. At ECA, Dr Alameddine's intellectual thoughts and vision of life, as life is the container of knowledge, were greatly influenced by the philosophy of Dr Faozi Ujam, Co-ordinator of PhD Programme.
Presently, Dr Alameddine is an assistant professor of urban design at the Department of Urban Planning and the Director of the Computer Centre of College of Architecture and Planning.
On many occassions, Dr Alameddine has been invited to provide consultation to private sector through King Abdullah Research and Consulting Institution at King Saud University, and he is currently providing consultation to Consultancy Group, a leading architectural and planning firm in Riyadh.
Dr Ziad is a member of the Order of Engineers and Architect in Beirut - Lebanon since 1985. He joined the Saudi Real Estate Science Association as an active member in 2008.
